Inside the Medicine Cabinet

Rhonda Gail | August 8, 2009

Most everyone visits someone’s home and, once in the bathroom, checks out the contents of the medicine cabinet.  I’m actually not one of those people… not because I’m not curious and nosy, but because I’m afraid they will hear it open or close!  Well, you won’t have to bother sneaking a peek into my cabinet.  I’m opening it up for you right now!

S5003063 Inside the Medicine Cabinet

1. Clean and Clear moisturizer

2. Garnier curl gel

3. Degree

4. Store brand ibuprofen

5. Aussie shine-enhancing gel  (Dustin’s). This is actually all but empty.

6. Echinacea

7. Zinc sulfate. I don’t even know what this is or what it does.

8. Mucinex

9. Folic acid.  I took this in the beginning of my pregnancy, before I switched to a vitamin that already included it.

10. Stool softener.  Just another unfun, necessary pregnancy need.

11. Mario Badescu hyaluronic eye cream

12. Store brand acetaminophen

13. Visine

14/15. Immodium and Store brand Dramamine (used for hangovers, not motion sickness)

16 and 17. Vitamin C. Why are there two?  I just noticed this.

18. Ear drops.

19. Men’s multivitamin.  Pretty sure this is over a year old and almost full.

20. BC for arthritis.  I don’t have arthritis, but this is great for severe headaches.

21. Store brand Excedrin

22. Eyeglass cleaner spray

23. Itch relief gel, Walgreen’s brand

24. Curel lotion for stretch marks.  It doesn’t work.

25. Secret deodorant

Not sure why I posted this, but it is now serving a whole new purpose… I just realized it’s time to clean out the medicine cabinet!

101 in 1001: Items 87 and 90 Completed

Rhonda Gail | August 2, 2009

Since I started my list a couple of months ago, I have reached 2 of the goals.

87. Order calling cards for my dad.

About a year ago, I saw in my dad’s car some of those little cards that go in graduation invitations, with the graduate’s name on them.  On the front was my brother’s name, in scrolly black ink… With my brother’s first name crossed out, and my dad’s handwritten in.  On the back, he listed his phone number.  He was actually giving these to people!  I knew I wanted to give him calling cards made just for him.  For Father’s Day, I had them printed up via VistaPrint and he LOVED them!

90. Buy a family vehicle.

If you had told me when I started this list that I would cross this one off so quickly, I wouldn’t have believed it.  With 3 children in child seats, we needed a lot more space than our pickup and small sedan could provide.  We just didn’t have the money to spend on a car at this time.  However, a series of unfortunate events led us down the path to buying a new car.  Love my minivan!

101 in 1001 finally posted!

Rhonda Gail | August 2, 2009

I finally have a 101 in 1001 tab on my blog.  I started this list a month or so ago, and just now finished it!  To learn more, visit the Day Zero site, linked from my 101 page.

I am so excited about this journey and challenge you all to begin one of your own!

I am going to post about each item on my list, with further explanations and stories behind the goals.  I will also post when I complete a goal, or encounter challenges along the way!  This should be a lot of fun!

Thank You For Being So Sweet

Rhonda Gail | August 1, 2009

My fellow managers at work have been more than accommodating since I came on board.  I started my job while pregnant, and they have always been easy on me, especially as I got further into the pregnancy and had no energy.  After my 6 weeks of maternity leave, I started back on a Sunday, and by Wednesday, they were having to do huge favors again.  We flipped the management rotation schedule upside down, because Harper was admitted to the hospital for surgery.  Once all was well, I went back to work with thank-you baskets in tow!

I wanted to take them all Starbucks gift cards, but was really strapped for cash, so I made budget-friendly gift baskets!

The ingredients:

S5003004 Thank You For Being So Sweet

  • Transparent vinyl bins from Dollar Tree.  They looked like candy, perfect for suiting my “sweet” theme. [$3]
  • 60 oz bag of mini chocolate candy bars from BJs Wholesale. [~$9]
  • 3- pack of Pop Rocks [$1]
  • Bag of Charms lollipops [$1]
  • 3- pack Trident spearmint gum. [$1]
  • 3 packs of Trident bubble gum. [$0 - already had a stash of at home]

The Steps:

1. Eat several pieces of chocolate.  Allow fiance to take a few pieces of the best kind, Milky Way Midnight.

2. Open a beer.

3. Okay, time to get down to business.   Fill bins with chocolate, scatter lollipops throughout, and toss in gum and Pop Rocks.

4. Scour house to find materials for making tags.

5. Come up with some unopened alphabet stamps, old half-dry ink pad, silver envelopes, and cheap markers belonging to a small child.

6. Disassemble envelopes, then trim off triangles.  Fold the square in half to form a tent.

S5003025 Thank You For Being So Sweet

7. Open stamps to discover that they are not cut apart.  Cut the rubber apart with a razor, grumbling the entire time about buying cheap craft supplies.

S5003017 Thank You For Being So Sweet

8. Stamp the words “Thank you for being so” onto each tag (disassembled envelopes).

S5003024 Thank You For Being So Sweet

9. Use cheap Rose Art markers (purchased by Grammy.  I only buy Crayola) to write in names and the word “sweet.”

S5003026 Thank You For Being So Sweet

10. Place tented tags over edge of basket.  Done!

S5003027 Thank You For Being So Sweet

Total cost: ~$15 for 3 baskets!

*yeah, I know… awful photos.  Give me a break.  I was drinking beer and working with awful lighting.
